  • Transcript: Oct 3rd, 1869 Sunday Morning My Darling Son I was filled with sorrow to Hear by Sam that you had been sick again. although he assured me that you was able to be up, But I well know the result of one getting up such a day as yesterday was after having taken Cal= omel the previous night. My dear Son you never will regain your health unless you are more pru= dent, Sam said you would not have left your bed had it not been to put up some articles for me. This only added to my regret, I understand and appreciate the motive which caused you to leave your bed in such a debi- litated condition. I fear you are suffer- ing for the want of the right treatment and nursing - My regret is that we have to be separated while your health is so precarious, as I am sure no one unders= tands your constitution as will as I do But stern necessity knows no law, and all we can do is to submit and do the best we can under the circumstances I know how anxious you are to hold your plan and succeed in the giving satisfa ction where your are - My ernest prayer is that you may soon regain your health and this you can do by remaining in bed a few days after taking medicine until your strength returns, do take ­­[opium] regular for a few day as by ---------------------------------------------- doing so you will be better able to go our in the air without injury, or danger of a relaps. You will doubtless remember I told you that I had the promise of having an offer for some of my land here during the past week, well I have had an offer for some, a Gent came here and I rode round the fifty acre trail on the creek (the same Mr G has a hold upon) he Mr Fort seemed much pleased with it, and agreed to take it at seven dollars pr Acre, is to give me an answer by yesterday two weeks by letter addressed to the care of Sydnor & Co so you will be on the lookout for it and send it down by Sam I feel as certain as any one can that Mr Fort will purchase the land, I liked his looks, and the way he talked, he is a hard working man, (so he told me) Yet a man of intelli gence and business capacity, has a family and will move here by, or before Chri stmas. He lives at Bastrop and was broken up by the late flood - Should this matter not fail I will be able to get out of G[ ] hands, & to pay Mrs H[arri- son] something - I agreed for cash down, or rather Currency - his last words were that nothing but death, or the utter im possibility to raise the amount would cause him to disappoint me & that he believed without doubt that he could raise the amount of money - now since this Gent left I have received still further assurances of aid and that this matter would be a success, But do not let this letter fall into any hands but your own as all these things are per haps mentioned prematurely - Yet I have every confidence that success will be the result (We will see) My prayer is for success, altho I would not under other circumstances have sold for any less than th Seven in specie I am pleas ed with the things you sent me the Bl ankets particularly - I will have you three pairs of trousers done by next Saturday - write me by Sam, and dont forget the envelopes (stamped) I have not said all I wish but Sam is waiting, so will close with much love and best wishes For you my darling Child M Jones Kind regards to Mr. Harrell & the Sydnor family as if named
