Summary
Part III of "Surviving Adolescence: It's Tough to Grow Up" series. In the first segment, J. D. Houston and Patricia Gras discuss teen health, sexuality, pregnancy, and AIDS with Ron Thomas, Coordinator for the March of Dimes Project Alpha, Dr. Peggy Smith, Director of the Teen Health Clinic at Ben Taub Hospital, and Amy Dolph, Juvenile Outreach Coordinator for the AIDS Foundation of Houston. Second segment focuses on teen self-esteem. Gras and Houston interview Phillip De La Rosa, Teen Coordinator at the YMCA, Dr. Shirley Gruen, a Clinical Psychologist, and Walter Holmes, a volunteer at Crisis Intervention. Third segment focuses on Health Police Task Force in Texas working on health care reform. Gras interviews Dan Wilford, President of Memorial Healthcare System, Vince Contorno, Vice President of Healthcare Management for Prucare of Houston, and Randall Hodde, Executive Director of the Houston Area Healthcare Coalition and Employer's Organization. In the fourth segment, Houston interviews John Davenport of J. D.'s Journal about College Park Memorial Cemetery, the resting place for many of Houston's early prominent Black citizens, and community efforts to clean and restore it. Includes parts of a report from John Davenport on the College Park Cemetery which addresses the history of the cemetery and citizens buried there, the fact that neither the city nor the county will maintain it, and clean-up efforts by local volunteers and Harris Co. probationers.
